Global Citizen tours the world with Coldplay! April 05 2016

For most months of the year, my job with Global Citizen involves working behind the scenes in New York City to ensure the annual Global Citizen Festival runs successfully. However, when the opportunity to hit the road with Global Citizen and join Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ world tour came up, it didn’t take much convincing to get me to pack my bags!

To say I am excited to join Coldplay on their world tour is an understatement, but not for the reasons you might think. Sure, traveling with one of the world’s biggest bands has its perks, but even more rewarding is the opportunity to engage one-on-one with Global Citizens from across the world. We started this process a little over a month ago, when we put out a call across Latin America for official Global Citizen volunteers in each city Coldplay is visiting on tour.

The goal was to find ten volunteers in each city that would be willing to go out, and talk to their peers about Global Citizen and the importance of gender equality. We were blown away by the response; within days we received hundreds of applications for each city, from inspiring, passionate, and driven Global Citizens. Each application bought a unique perspective, from diverse backgrounds, with inspiring stories as to why they were a Global Citizen. However, one thing was clear: the common goal of each applicant to use their voices and speak up to #levelthelaw across the globe.

Over the next couple of weeks, as Global Citizen travels across Latin America with Coldplay, I am going to introduce you to some of our incredible volunteers and the work we are doing to achieve Gender Equality. Stay tuned for an insider view of being on tour with Coldplay, and join us in sharing Global Citizen’s first adventure to Latin America.

Every night of the tour, our friend and supporter Chris Martin is still sporting his Global Citizen t-shirt. You can too! Find it in The Global Citizen Shop!

Chris Martin brings Global Citizen center stage at Super Bowl February 08 2016

Millions of people saw the Global Citizen logo on Chris Martin's sleeve last night during the Super Bowl halftime show. It was a moment of global solidarity, a moment that broadcasted a commitment to help end extreme poverty around the world. Chris is the curator of the Global Citizen Festival until 2030, when the Global Goals will be achieved, so he knows all about the issues that global citizens care about.

Chris knows that the Global Goals can only be achieved if everyone unites. If everyone realizes that the problems facing the world today--climate change, hunger, conflict, gender inequality--can be overcome through cooperation.

Chris and fellow global citizen superstar Beyoncé have reason to be optimistic. Because when it comes to ending extreme poverty, we're all on the same team.

If you want to show everyone what team you're on, you can wear Chris's shirt! Get them while they last!
